Runescape PK’in 101: Know Your Zones

0

Written on January 23, 2010 by Micki

By Cruzer
Know your surroundings.

What are hotzones? Coolzones? Safe zones? These are the questions you should be asking when noticing your PK’ing environment when on a PvP or Bounty world.

Hot zones are considered crowded places on a PvP or Bounty world, where there are many PK’ers. These places are dangerous, so you get more EP. A flaming skull will appear on the corner of your screen when you enter a hotzone.
The following list shows some hot zones:
-East Ardougne
-Edgeville north to Wilderness ditch
-Falador
-Area surrounding Grand Exchange
-Varrock
-The crossroads of Varrock and Al Kharid
-The entire Wilderness

Why enter a hotzone? Being in a hotzone gives you more EP, which will be explained in future articles.

Safe zones are places where players may not attack each other.
The following list shows all safe zones:
-Banks
-Grand Exchange
-Entrana
-Upstairs in Monastery
-Respawn points (ex. Lumbridge, Falador, Camelot)
-Skill Guilds
-All random event locations
-Fishing Trawler beach (where the trawler sinks)
-The Chaos Tunnels
-Party room

There is a way to fight another person in a safe zone. If a player runs into a safe zone while in combat, a 10-second timer appears. During these 10 seconds the player is safe from all players except from the player who attacked him/her, and other players who have a 10 second timer. Once the timer depletes, the player can no longer be attacked. According to Jagex, this is to prevent “hit-and-run” tactics.

Whenever you see neither a flaming skull or a skull crossed out, that means you are in a coolzone/normal ‘zone’. These are just normal places, where there aren’t as many PK’ers.

Runescape Mining Skill Interview with Nix

Written on January 17, 2010 by Micki

By Manny
Hello and Welcome!

This skill interview shall be short and sweet just like we like it.

Nix’s persona taken from Rker’s perspective:
manny3
Nomen Nudum spots a small obelisk and instinctively tears it to pieces with his pickaxe. He still has 1 Summoning to this day.

manny2

Ever wonder what the Asgarnian adaptation of “Where’s Waldo?” would be like?

manny1
Insiders have leaked that the keenest of prospectors may be organizing meetings in barren underground trenches. Legend has it that innumerable men exhibiting T-shaped symbols (pickaxes) will one day rise up and overthrow those who praise the ever-so-popular P-icon (the hatchet).

I asked Nix to answer a few questions and here they are:

Do you enjoy mining?
For the most part, yes.

Did you ever dream of 99 Mining?
After about 80 I did.

Were you overjoyed when you achieved 99 mining?
I wouldn’t say overjoyed, but I was glad I got it done.

What would you suggest to miners to mine at 92?
The new cave all the way through 99.

I would also like to add that Nix suggested that when you first start mining, take it slow and in spurts. Don’t try to finish 1-99 mining like a god or something.

Screenies were provided by Rker and Nix.

Magical Runscape Moneymaking: Making money through Woodcutting and Mining

By Jack

Hi, this weeks moneymaking guide/blog is based around Woodcutting and Mining. It will show YOU what ways are profitable, and which aren’t so. I will show some free-to-play methods, and some pay-to-play methods.

First off we will do Woodcutting. If your free to play, you can only chop Normal trees, Oaks, Willows and Yews.

Normal logs sell for around 50gp, oaks for about 90, willows for about 10 and Yews for around 440.*

If you have 15-70 Woodcutting, make your money through chopping Oak trees. You will need a lot of Oak logs for 70 Woodcutting, so a lot of money will be made, roughly 1-2M, at the minimum. Once you have reached 70, you should go cut Yews. Down to personal experience, yews are fast enough cash at 90 compared to Oaks.

They might take slightly longer per invent, but have a good price. Oaks can bring in huge profits once at higher levels, so don’t miss out.

If you are p2p however, Mahogany logs and magic logs are also good choices. Mahogany logs sell for quite a bit, and they are recommended around 70 Woodcutting. If you cut them before, they might be slow. They will rake in a decent profit.

If you have 85+ Woodcutting, however, you can cut magic logs at a decent speed. If you are using a dragon axe, the results will be amazing, and extremely fast. However if you use a rune axe, it will be slightly slower. A Dragon hatchet gives you 10-15% more logs an hour. If you are Woodcutting for fast cash, don’t use the Inferno Adze, as it burns 1 in 4 logs.

Woodcutting is my personal favourite, but others prefer Mining, the second method I will talk about this week.
mining
If you are mining ores for your method, then DO NOT MINE F2P COAL. At least not until you get to the mining guild. You won’t have to fight over rocks there, and your coal mining only gets faster as you get to be a higher level. The price for coal is 50gp more than Iron, and Iron is way faster. If you are f2p, I recommend mining Iron until 65-70 mining, then go for Mithril. After 85 mining do Adamant for the real cash.

If you are p2p however, Pure essence, Adamant and Runite ore are good methods, as they are extremely fast using the Dragon pickaxe or Inferno Adze. If you want to mine F2P Mithril, there is a few Mithril rocks at Crandor.

For members, Coal is recommended near Camelot, using the coal trucks, to transport large amounts. Otherwise try mining gem rocks, or other high level pay to play rocks.

My personal mining favourite is Mithril ore, as it is quite expensive, and rakes in a decent profit, f2p and p2p. I have been recommended that you might as well mine mithril, as it is better cash than coal.

Runescape Pk’in 101: Who can you PK?

0

Written on January 10, 2010 by Micki

By Cruzer

It’s your first day as a PK’er right? Here’s your first tip. Anyone with a combat level can be attacked. Are you afraid of Level 138’s picking on you? Don’t worry, there are many barriers that affect who you can attack and who can attack you.

The formula/equation to finding out who can attack you and who you can attack is here.

level range = ( 0.1 × Combat level) + 5 + Wilderness level

Let’s find an example. Considering you were a level 72, then your level range will be 12.2 (considering you are not in the wilderness). That means anyone that is 12 levels above or below you can attack you on a PvP world.

There is a very small chance that a player out of your range can attack you. This is because even though they are not in your range, you are in theirs.

When looking for a player to attack, check out their colors. The color of their name can tell you if they are someone you really want to fight. All the possible combat level colors are below:

Green – Green means the player is below your combat level.
Yellow – Yellow means the player is equal to your combat level.
Orange – Orange means the player is 1 to 6 combat levels higher than you.
Red
White – White means the player is out of your combat range, and cannot be attacked.

That’s all for this time’s PK’ing 101. You’ve only scratched the surface of PK’ing.

The lives that we touch — Runescape funeral

0

Written on January 9, 2010 by Micki

We don’t really know the lives we touch on Runescape. We don’t know who the other person is, about their likes or dislikes, what they look like, sometimes even their true age or gender. Often we don’t know who is behind the other chair other then the user name and the information that they might share with us.

But sometimes, not often, we get glimpse of truth of their life. I have a favorite cc that I love to prowl. There was a very good player in there by the name of WRS Rasputin I affectionately called Raspy. Others knew him as Jorge, but I always called him Raspy. This cc also had Raspy’s brother and cousin that would drop in, but I never really got to know them. In late October Jorge and his cousin had a car wreck and both died. The only reason I and my other clan chat friends found out was because his brother came in and told us. So we held a Runescape funeral for him. Here are a few pictures from the funeral. rasp 3 done

We just never know about the person on that other computer. When we register there is the little blurb about the other person having feelings and to treat others with respect. People kid around with, “Oh, it’s just the internet” and “Don’t take it so seriously – it’s just a game”, but there are lives represented behind each of those user names.

RIP Raspy.

I like the fact that it’s not as commercialized as WoW, or other MMORPGS. Plus, I got into RuneScape much easier.

How did you find out about Runescape?
I found out when I was at a friend’s house. She had an account, and I thought it looked cool, so she helped me set up my first official Runescape account “Deadgirl 102″. Unfortunately, that account is perm-banned.

Runescape skill total?
I haven’t checked, but it’s around 1k.

Favourite Runescape skill?
It’s a tie between agility and thieving.

F2P or P2P?
P2P.

Favourite or best way to make money on Runescape? and why?
Turning flax into bowstrings. I guess you could say it’s simple and effective, and makes twice the money in a good 30 minutes or so if you just need pocket change.

Favourite Runescape quest? and why?
I don’t have a favorite. I’m not much of a quests person.

What you like doing most on Runescape? and why?

Ironically, I googled the exact phrase “Runescape Boards” and somehow I ended up here.

A lot of great people and quite a few friends that I have made here have given me the will to stay here. Plus, this place gives out good advice, Runescape related or not.

What do you think the future holds for Runescape? and why?
I think a lot more people will be interested in Runescape, probably because it’s more public and not closed-off, as in comparison to 2 or 3 years ago.

Favourite Runescape armour and weapons? and why?
Dragon armor since it’s nice and simple, plus it’s been here for about the whole game.

What motivates you to keep playing Runescape?
Because I generally have fun skilling, doing minigames, etc.

Favourite Runescape mini game? and why?
I like Barbarian Assault since you can play in a team, and you can get good rewards at the end if you have enough points.

What tips and suggestions do you have for players just starting Runescape?
Try looking at the forums and searching via search bar on the forums on RuneScape. It’s a lot more relieving rather than following people around in game for 20 minutes asking for free gp, food, items, etc.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your Runescape experience?
Not really.

Runescape will last a long time, I know this sounds bad, but I hope that my kids play this game some day.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your Runescape experience?
While I don’t actually KNOW the people that I talk to on Runescape, it’s nice to know that they at least act like they care about me.

Runescape Capes

0

Written on December 25, 2009 by Bob_Wallie

In Runescape, you’re appearance is not all about whether or not you are seen to have the best armour or weapons. Yes, players will marvel over your Armadyl Godsword or your Dragon Full Helm, but your outfit really isn’t complete without Runescape capes.

I know, I know, you’re thinking about why I’m making such a big deal about Runescape capes? Well, if you’re aiming for a level 99 skill, then what’ll be one of the first things you will want to do? That’s right, you’ll want to head over to the Skill Master and purchase your very own Skill Cape!

GoNatter.com - Pages | Runescape | Skill Capes | Skill Capes

Runescape skill capes can only be bought by those who have mastered the skill in question; through means of reaching level 99 in the skill. The Runescape skill cape allows you to non-verbally brag that you’ve completed all of the levels involved in that skill, and you are one of the best. Fair enough, which “infamous” player wouldn’t want to be passed by another player who  is awed by the sight of a Runescape skill cape.

However, more and more people are reaching level 99 in various skills, and therefore more and more people are obtaining the Runescape capes. Okay, there is the Runescape Quest cape that you could aim for as well as or instead of a Runescape skill cape, but even that Runescape cape isn’t as over-rated as it should be! So, back to basics…

It all started a long time ago…in a game not too hard to play…with normal Runescape capes. It’s hard to believe that there are actually normal Runescape capes! Actually, no it’s not…players just seem to have forgotten about them! Gone are the days when players would spend hours trying to find someone to buy a yellow cape from, what with the introduction of the Grand Exchange and various other Runescape capes. However, just because there is nothing seemingly special about normal capes doesn’t mean that it’s not actually cool to wear one. Who needs a Runescape skill cape, quest cape, or team cape? Why not just settle for normal Runescape capes and be done with all of the special Runescape cape “necessity”.

GoNatter.com - Pages | Runescape | Skill Capes | Skill Capes

There are a number of Runescape capes that you can buy which don’t need requirements, that aren’t some by-product of a quest or mini-game. Capes that you can find here or there and wear to your delight. So why not find a normal cape, and transform it into a colour of your choice having dyed it?! Different coloured Runescape capes await you…go get yours now!
